October 2017

October 7-8 – Camping & Fishing Trip 

October 9 – STEM Merit Badge Midway Registration Opens at 9 AM

October 12 – Troop/Parent Meeting at the Redwood Shores Elementary School Multi-Purpose room.

October 19 – Advancement Meeting at the Redwood Shores Elementary School Multi-Use room, scouts can complete rank requirements, attend Scoutmaster Conferences, and get Boards of Review.

October 20 – Order of the Arrow Induction where the scouts elected go to the induction ceremony, Ordeal, where they will complete tasks to learn significant values.

October 26 – Fall Court of Honor for Scouts and families at the Redwood Shores Elementary School Multi-Use room.

October 28 – Caleb Ahn and Jason Chan’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Palo Alto Service center, please RVSP here.

October 29 – Basic Orienteering in Menlo Park, details TBD.

 

September 2017

September 9 – CPR Training at the Redwood Shores Library, this is for scouts and scout leaders, but the maximum is 8 scouts and 4 leaders.

September 9 – Jeffrey Chan’s Eagle Scout Project. Redwood Shores Library, 2pm-4pm, Meeting Room A. Making rosaries for missionaries around the world.  If attending, please watch this video before coming: https://olrm.org/how-to-make-a-rosary/. See troop newsletter for how to RSVP.

September 14 – Troop/Parent Meeting, location Sandpiper Community Center from 7:00PM-8:00PM.

September 15 – Scoutapalooza is an event held by the Pack 61 leaders at the Sandpiper Community Center where the cub scouts go through multiple stations and learn stuff from Boy Scouts or leaders.

September 16 – San Jose Earthquakes Scout Night at Avaya Stadium from 7:15 pm to 10:00 pm.

September 21 – Advancement Meeting at the location Redwood Shores Elementary from 7:00PM-9:00PM, scouts can complete rank requirements, attend Scoutmaster Conferences, and get Boards of Review.

September 23 – Rim Rover Hike at Mount Saint Helena, this is an 11 mile hike.

September 28 – Troop Meeting, location Redwood Shores Elementary from 7:00PM-9:00PM.

August 2017

August 3 – Rank Advancement Meeting at the large classroom at Sandpiper, scouts can complete rank requirements, attend Scoutmaster Conferences, and get Boards of Review. This will also be the Point Reyes prep. meeting.

August 11-13 – Point Reyes Backpacking Trip where you can experience a multi-day backpacking trip.

August 24 – Troop Meeting at the large classroom at Sandpiper.

August 26 – Rise Against Hunger at the Sandpiper Community Center, scouts can earn service hours by helping package meals to accomplish the goal of 75,000 meals.

 

May 2017

May 11 – Troop Meeting at the Redwood Shores Elementary School Multi-Purpose room.

May 13th – Eagle Service Project – 9am-1pm Redwood Shores Elementary School

May 18 – Angel Island Pack Check & Advancement Meeting at the Redwood Shores Elementary School Multi-Use room, scouts can complete rank requirements, attend Scoutmaster Conferences, and get Boards of Review.

May 20 – Troop Campout, Service Project & Hike at Angel Island, we will also be doing a service project.

May 25 – Troop Meeting at Marlin Park. <— Note change of location!

  • Please not that this location has changed again!  This is no longer a regular troop meeting, but a drop-in meeting for boys wanting help with requirements.

June 8th – Dutch Oven Cook-Off – 7pm Marlin Park in Redwood Shores <— Post-poned from June 1st to June 8th

Service Projects 2017

One of the rank requirements for Boy Scouts is to perform service.  Sometimes the service is Troop sponsored, other times the Scout can participate independently.  Below are two excellent local opportunities for Scouts to get outside and give back to our wonderful parks.  Please be sure to record your service hours using our log sheet.

CA State Parks Foundations Park Champions Program holds volunteer work days in state parks across California. Park Champions projects improve the quality, safety and preservation of our state parks. Projects in the past year have included trail repair, invasive plant removal, habitat restoration, the rehabilitation of an historic orchard, fence construction, bridge construction, and re-painting park structures. If you enjoy volunteering outdoors, want to work with a fun group of people, and you want to make a difference in our state parks, then become a Park Champion and join us for the next work day happening near you!

San Mateo County Parks Stewardship Corps – Make a difference through volunteering with the Stewardship Corps.
