July 2016

July 7 – Troop Meeting at the Sandpiper Community Center and picnic tables. You will be competing in the Troop-Olympics like sack races or an army obstacle course.

July 14 – Advancement Meeting at the Sandpiper Community Center and on the picnic tables. You can complete requirements, get completed rank requirements signed off in your book, request a Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review.

July 15-17 – Boulder Creek Service Project Campout for Joel to complete one of his Woodbadge tickets and will be a joint event with Pack 32 from Santa Clara. You will be helping Boulder Creek Scout Reservation rebuild their campfire bowl.

July 21 – Troop Meeting at the Sandpiper Community Center and picnic tables . There will also be a Camp Winton pack check for the July 24-30 Summer Camp and a final Q&A for the scouts, adults and parents.

July 24-30 – At the Camp Winton Summer Camp you can have fun and work on many different merit badges.

2016 Nuclear Science Day for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts

Ever wondered about light? Ever heard of cosmic rays? What’s so cosmic about them? Is radioactivity an activity on the radio?! Well, you’re gonna have a chance to satisfy your curiosity, because the troop will be going to the Nuclear Science Day for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts event at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, or Berkeley Lab for short! At this event, Scouts will learn the ABC’s of Nuclear Science and participate in a number of exciting and educational activities. Upon completion of the day’s activities, all participants will earn the event patch (a prerequisite worksheet is required, though).

By the way, nuclear science may one day help us get to the stars faster! Think antimatter rockets!!!

And one more thing: this event is FREE!

This Winter-themed Camp-O-Ree is COOL, man! Join your fellow Scouts for a fun weekend in and on the snow!

Featured events include – Sled Race, Jumbo Ski, Snowshoe Relay, Spear Throw, Fire Building, Snowball Toss, Ice Rescue, and Moon Ball

Mount Hermon 2016 – Climb through the trees!

On February 27, the troop is scheduled to participate in the Mt. Hermon Adventure Course in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Push yourself to conquer 14 different activities, including swinging logs, cargo nets, and cables set 30 to 80 feet in the air! The course ends with a thrilling set of zip lines. Multiple self-guided options combine solo and partner balance elements, focusing on challenge, fun, and group interaction. Cost will be approximately $55 and Scouts must be 10 years or older, 57 inches tall and at least 75 pounds (no more than 250 lbs) Time will be approximately 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. We will leave from Sandpiper and boys will need lunches, water, appropriate clothing and ten essentials. We will need drivers. Adults can participate as well..we have 20 – 24 spots available.

Family Snow Camp!


The snow is here and we are offering Troop families a chance to join together for a winter weekend at Camp Sylvester near Dodge Ridge in Pinecrest, California. No worries – this is not snow shelter camping, we will sharing heated camp cabins and a kitchen! (still need sleeping bags & pads for the bunk beds) We will leave Friday night and return Sunday afternoon. We will share a Troop dinner on Saturday night, and Troop breakfast Sunday morning. Families are responsible for other meals, although we could coordinate as we finalize reservations — lots of flexibility! Dodge Ridge is nearby for Skiing and Snowboarding, and there are plenty of areas for snow play and sledding. Lodging is $50 per person; meals cost TBD depending on plans.

Dec 3 – Troop Meeting. Bring a new unwrapped toy or book to donate to the RWC & San Mateo County Toy & Book Drive. Toys and books will be collected at the beginning of the Troop meeting and Redwood City Fire Department will collect.

Dec 12 – Mt. Tamalpias hike.

Dec 14 – Wrapping Party. Join T61 and various community associations for gift “wrapping party” at Red Morton Community Center, 1120 Roosevelt Avenue,

2017 Jamboree

I know it seems early to start planning for 2017 – but registration has opened for the 2017 BSA Jamboree to be held on July 19 – 28, 2017. There will definitely be boys T61 attending, some have already registered. Click here to read more about it and/or to register.


May 14 – Survival Skills: Lashings+ & Orienteering+Compass skills.

May 16 – Wilderness Survival campout

May 21 – Advancement meeting: Sign-offs for Personal Management, Personal Fitness 7:30-8 PM, & general advancement. Please register & indicate what you are coming for.

May 23 – New recently bridged Webelo Scouts: All about scouting. Scout-Life scouts will participate in a catapult challenge.


Our Thursday April 9 Troop meeting will be at Marlin Park. There will be Dutch Oven cooking and outdoor activities. Please remember to bring your headlamp. Class B OK.

Advancement meeting will be on April 16 at RWS Elementary. ASM Jay will be working on the Personal Management MB 7-8PM. Following the MB, SM Joe will be going over what is required to complete an Eagle Project and the contents of the Eagle Project Workbook. The Eagle class is open to Scouts Star rank and above.

Thursday April 30 we will meet again at RWS Elementary. We will have a visit from the Sea Scouts and then be covering and practicing rope skills required for an aquatic rescue.
